Saviynt has released its ‘Saviynt Identity Security for AI’ solution, designed to extend enterprise identity and access management (IAM) frameworks to autonomous AI agents. The platform provides continuous visibility, lifecycle governance, and real-time authorisation controls for AI agents, treating them as a distinct identity tier alongside human and non-human entities. The solution comprises three core capabilities: 

  • Identity security posture management (ISPM) for AI to discover and surface risks from authorised and unauthorised agents.
  • Identity lifecycle management to assign ownership and govern agents from provisioning to decommissioning.
  • Agent access gateway to evaluate and enforce policy on agent interactions in real-time. 

The platform supports integrations with Amazon Bedrock, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Google Vertex AI, ServiceNow AI, and Salesforce Agentforce, and incorporates external risk signals from CrowdStrike, Zscaler, Wiz, and Cyera. Hertz, The Auto Club Group, and UKG are identified as organisations that collaborated on development and currently deploy the solution.

Why It Matters:

The acceleration of AI adoption within enterprises has introduced a new class of identity: the autonomous AI agent. Such agents operate at machine speed, often without direct human oversight, and may trigger consequential actions across multiple business systems. Traditional identity and access management systems, designed primarily for human users or deterministic programmatic workflows, are fundamentally inadequate for these dynamic, reasoning-based entities.

This gap creates a critical governance risk, as detailed in ‘Addressing AI Governance Debt – Moving from Hesitancy to Orchestration’, IBRS, 2025, where it was noted: governance debt due to the accumulated failure to establish robust controls during prior technology transitions is now compounding, creating dangerous pathways for unmanaged AI access.

The challenge is fundamentally one of speed and transparency. Unlike prompt-based AI systems that produce text for human review, autonomous agents execute sequences of actions, calling APIs, writing to systems, sending communications, and often completing dozens of actions before a human sees the outcome. 

A framework to address this challenge must operate across three dimensions. 

Discovery: organisations must identify all autonomous agents, both authorised and unauthorised, to eliminate ‘shadow AI’, the equivalent of shadow IT in the cloud era. 

Lifecycle governance: every agent must have an assigned human owner and a defined scope of authority, from provisioning through decommissioning. 

Runtime enforcement: policies must be evaluated and enforced in real-time, at machine speed, preventing unauthorised actions before they execute. 

Furthermore, governance of these AI agents also needs to address emerging AI attack vectors, as detailed in ‘Are Your AI Agents a Security Achilles Heel? Microsoft to the Rescue’, IBRS, 2025, such as prompt injection, data poisoning, and privileged access misuse. All that makes real-time governance essential.

Saviynt’s approach aligns with the above framework. However, several considerations temper the assessment. 

First, the market is nascent; whilst the vendor claims to be ‘first’ and ‘only’, other IAM vendors and cloud providers are actively developing AI identity capabilities, including Microsoft with its newly announced E7 offering. No single vendor has achieved universal recognition for solving this problem. 

Second, integration breadth is critical but incomplete; whilst the platform supports major AI development platforms, the ecosystem continues to expand, and coverage will require continuous updates. 

Third, and most significantly, a governance platform is only as effective as the processes and policies it enforces. Technical solutions cannot replace the hard work of defining what AI agents should and should not do. IBRS defines this as putting the ‘blueprint before bot’, which is the discipline of simplifying processes before automating them. Many organisations deploying AI agents have not done this foundational work, leaving themselves at risk not only of scaling up and automating chaos but also of scaling up and automating risk.

Nevertheless, the recognition that AI agents require identity and access governance distinct from legacy IAM models is a positive and necessary step for the industry. For organisations deploying autonomous agents into production, a dedicated control plane for AI identities is now a practical necessity, not an optional enhancement. The question is no longer whether to govern AI agents as identities, but how fast to implement this and with what level of granularity and real-time responsiveness. Organisations with heavy investments in Microsoft Copilot and a low-risk appetite may wish to wait for Microsoft’s E7 bundle to mature and uplift once Microsoft has sorted its approach out.   • Define Risk Profiles for Each Agent: Categorise agents by the sensitivity of data they access, the criticality of systems they modify, and the financial or operational impact of their failures. Prioritise governance investment on high-risk agents first.
  • Assign Clear Ownership: For each agent, designate a named human owner responsible for its behaviour, access permissions, and incident response. Ownership is the cornerstone of accountability; without it, governance fails.
  • Simplify Processes Before ‘Agentising’ Them: Apply business process management (BPM) discipline to define clear, auditable workflows before deploying agents to execute them. Automating fragmented or suboptimal processes will only compound complexity.
  • Evaluate Identity Governance Solutions: Assess candidates based on the breadth of platform integration, the depth of real-time control, ease of integration with existing security operations, and the maturity of the vendor’s approach. Do not assume that extending traditional IAM will suffice; purpose-built AI identity solutions may be necessary.
  • Embed Security into AI DevSecOps: Work with AI development teams to integrate governance and security considerations into every stage of the agent lifecycle, moving away from ad-hoc ‘vibe coding’ toward formal, auditable software delivery practices for AI systems.
  • Plan for Cost Management: AI agents often operate on consumption-based metering models. Recursive calls or parallel retries can cause costs to spike unexpectedly. Negotiate consumption caps with vendors and establish financial forecasting and monitoring mechanisms aligned with agent activity.
