VENDORiQ: Aussie Atturra’s Acquisition of US Kitepipe Boomi Specialist

Atturra's Kitepipe acquisition expands its North American footprint, bolstering Boomi integration, crucial for TechnologyOne and Microsoft ecosystems, with Philippine support enhancing scalability.

The Latest

Atturra Limited, an Australian technology services provider, has acquired Kitepipe, a US-based Boomi Platinum Partner, for an upfront payment of USD 3.15 million. This acquisition expands Atturra’s geographic footprint into North America and strengthens its Boomi integration capabilities. Kitepipe, known for its expertise in Boomi integration services, brings over 10 years of experience, 70 Boomi certifications, and a track record of over 1,000 integration projects. The deal also includes a global offshore support team in the Philippines, enhancing Atturra’s operational scalability for its Australian clients.

Why it Matters

The deal is of particular importance for CIOs in education or public sector organisations that have one, or both, Microsoft Business Apps and TechnologyOne, as integration is one of the most challenging and potentially costly considerations.

For Atturra, the deal marks a step in a global expansion strategy, providing a foothold in the North American market. It provides a significantly larger market opportunity for its Microsoft-based enterprise solutions, allowing it to further diversify from TechnologyOne clients.

Atturra has a strong Australian practice in TechnologyOne, and has developed much-needed integration for the TechnologyOne SaaS platform using Boomi. This is one reason Boomi has a strong presence with TechnologyOne clients in education, local government, and other public sector organisations.

Atturra is also creating Microsoft business application configurations that complement and, in some areas, compete with the TechnologyOne stack, and integration will be an essential part of its strategy.

Kitepipe’s deep expertise in Boomi integration complements Atturra’s existing capabilities, particularly in the Australian market, where it has a strong presence in providing an ‘integration wrapper’ for the TechnologyOne Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform with Boomi.

This alignment positions Atturra to offer end-to-end integration solutions across multiple geographies.

For Kitepipe, the acquisition provides the scale and resources needed to expand its service offerings and address gaps in its consulting and managed services. The cultural alignment between the two companies, as highlighted by their leadership, suggests a smoother integration process, which is often a challenge in cross-border acquisitions.

The Philippine-based development team that Kitepipe brings to the deal should also not be underestimated. The skills, processes, and potential cost benefits the Kitepipe team brings to Atturra’s Australian clients looking to adopt more Boomi iPaaS (Integration Platform-as-a-Service) capabilities could be a significant competitive advantage for Atturra.

Overall, the acquisition also strengthens Atturra’s ability to compete in the TechnologyOne and Microsoft ecosystems, where integration and data management are critical for operational efficiency.

However, challenges remain. Integrating Kitepipe’s operations into Atturra’s existing structure will require careful planning to avoid disruptions, especially for existing Boomi integration projects. Additionally, based on a 7.5x forecast EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation) multiple, the deal’s valuation suggests moderate to high expectations for Atturra’s North American performance.

Who’s Impacted?

  • Atturra clients: Evaluate how the expanded Boomi capabilities can support enterprise integration strategies beyond TechnologyOne.
  • Boomi clients: View Atturra as a growing implementation partner and consider it in shortlists. However, as always, carefully evaluate their available human capital and processes for any project since there is a perennial shortage of integration specialists.

Next Steps

  • Evaluate Boomi’s Expanded Capabilities: Organisations using or considering Boomi should assess how the combined expertise of Atturra and Kitepipe can address their integration needs and alleviate skill shortages (which are rife in Australia).
