VENDORiQ: Apple Joins the Other Vendors in Embedding AI Into All Our Devices: More Evidence of How We’ll Work in 2035

Uncover the revolutionary changes AI integration in personal devices will bring to future workspaces. Stay ahead of the curve with IBRS analysis.

The Latest

At the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference 2024, the vendor unveiled a suite of AI features across its entire device ecosystem. These included: Vision OS for Apple Vision Pro, which converts 2D images into spatial images; iOS updates across photo services, including semantic search and automatic image categorisation; voice isolation for AirPods; automatic translation capabilities for Apple Watch; Safari browser provides article summaries.

However, the most significant announcement was Apple Intelligence. This directly integrates powerful generative AI models into iPhone, iPad, and Mac user experiences. Significantly, many of the AI capabilities run locally on the user devices, which not only improves AI response latency but also improves privacy.

Why It’s Important

The announcement of Apple Intelligence, a deeply integrated AI system, is further evidence that AI services will be baked into most personal computing devices in the near future. Microsoft, Samsung and Google have already released devices with hardware-based AI accelerators or on-board AI services. On the surface, these advances look like incremental enhancements. In reality, they will transform how we engage with computing services, our date-to-day tasks and workflows, and how we access and manipulate information. The trend holds significant relevance for enterprise digital workspaces.

The AI updates in AirPods and Apple Watch represent innovations in personal and workplace communication, particularly with voice isolation in noisy environments and automated translation features, crucial for global operations. But more importantly, they pave the way for users to interact more fully with natural language AI agents that will become common in the next 24 months.
