VENDORiQ: Salesforce Launches Generative AI for Tableau

Tableau's update integrates generative AI for automated data analysis and predictions. Pulse offers personalised analytics, while Data Cloud enhances insights with customer data. IBRS sees such AI hyperautomation as increasing, not correlating the need for digital literacy. Find out why.

The Latest

06 June 2023: Salesforce released an update for Tableau, its data analytics solutions. The update embeds generative AI with Saleforce’s Einstien AI technology. OpenAI’s new TableauGPT enables automated data analysis, predictions for what Tabelau users wish to do next while using the analytics tool, and providing suggestions for insights from the data being analysed. Users can ask questions conversationally to explore their data.

Tableau’s new Pulse facilitates swift decision-making with automated, personalised analytics in visual and natural language formats, integrating with collaboration tools like Slack and email for seamless work-flow insights and collaboration.

Salesforce Data Cloud enhances Tableau by integrating customer data from Saleforce for quick insights into customer behaviour and to support decision-making.

Why It’s Important

All analytics solutions will have embedded AI tools – in this case several different AI tools – by the end of 2023. While AI tools will greatly improve the usability of analytics platforms and provide recommendations for creating reports, graphics and dashboards, they will not supplant the need for data literacy among staff. In fact, they increase the need for data literacy. With AI, staff can access and analyse data, but the key issue is not the how, but the why of analytics. What questions should be asked and what problems can be solved with data?

Who’s Impacted

  • Data analytics team
  • End user computing/digital workspace teams

What’s Next?

  • Measure and develop your staff’s data literacy skills, factoring that while AI will make exploring and interpreting data easier, it will not supplant staff reasoning.
  • Take a steady, tested and well-evaluated approach to leveraging AI.
