Why It’s Important
The use of AI in the workplace has generated a lot of excitement among enterprise leaders. However, while tools like Copilot are being integrated into almost every Microsoft product to enhance productivity and engagement, in this case it is important to consider how they may change the workplace dynamic. It is critical for organisations to balance concerns between the new and still developing technology of AI and human interaction. Copilot’s current benefits within Viva are more centred on management capabilities to enhance productivity and engagement within the organisation. But productivity does not always equate to better communication. Care, and training in how to leverage generative AI in a way that improves genuine staff engagement, rather than creating superficial noise, will be essential.
Who’s Impacted
- HR teams
- Training groups
- Microsoft 365 teams
- Operational teams
What’s Next?
- Leaders must engage with the employee engagement manager or equivalent within the organisation. Managers should discuss recent employee engagement results: what insights they provide and what questions need to be further explored.
- Improve continuous collaboration using AI-infused tools.
- AI can be error prone as it is ever learning technology. It is imperative that human touch be on AI generated messages, not just to check for errors and common sense. Staff will disengage if messaging is consistently and clearly AI-generated.
